FACT!

The majority of Americans have a pessimistic view of our economy, despite data that shows the economy is strong.

“By many measures — unemployment, inflation, the stock market — the economy is strong. Yet only 23 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the right direction.” —Steve Rattner, NY Times Opinion

For example:

  • 73% think inflation is higher than a year ago. However, inflation has fallen from 7.7% in Oct 2022 to 3.2% in Oct 2023.
  • 51% think unemployment is higher today than it was 30 years ago. In fact, unemployment rate was 6.5% at the end of 1993, compared to the current rate of 3.7%.
