FACT!
VP Kamala Harris is a leader in her own right, and her role has been far more than just ceremonial, despite the lack of attention to her achievements by the media. Below are some highlights.
As Vice President, Harris:
- Worked together with Biden to pass the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, including engaging with lawmakers at least 150 times, and quietly pushing for several environmental provisions that she had worked on as a Senator
- Attended 750 official events (average of 3 per day)
- Met with 150 heads of state and government, including traveling to Poland to reassure Nato allies of the US commitment to defending Ukraine
- Launched the “Central America Forward” initiative to address causes of migration to the southern US border to better address crime, poverty and unemployment (Since then, $5.2 billion in private-public partnerships have been secured to tackle these issues)
- Launched her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” tour to fight for the right for every American to make decisions about their own body in response to SCOTUS overturning Roe
- Chairs the National Space Council, which orchestrates policy across civil, commercial, and national security domains ranging from space exploration and the space industrial base, to threats emanating from China’s burgeoning investment in satellite and anti-satellite capabilities that are pivotal to modern warfare as well as daily communication and commerce
- Oversees the first-ever Office of Gun Violence and Prevention
