“While prior presidents overwhelmingly reserved pardons for those who accepted responsibility for their crimes, made full restitution to their victims and paid all their legal fines, Trump uses pardons not only to shorten the sentences of his political friends but to wipe out the debt they owe to their victims and to our society.” — Congressmember Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee
A study by Democratic House Judiciary members reveals:
- Trump’s pardons have resulted in real economic losses for victims, other survivors, taxpayers, and the Crime Victims Fund
- In many cases allowing these fraudsters, cheats, and criminals to keep the money they stole
- The total so far is a more than $1.3 billion loss to victims and gain to perpetrators
- Trump has violated traditional DOJ standards that require the perpetrator to accept responsibility and make restitution
