On August 18, Trump posted on Truth Social, “We are now the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting. All others gave it up because of the MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD ENCOUNTERED.” Not true.
- 34 countries or territories allow mail-in voting in some form
- 12 countries, including Germany, South Korea, and Canada allow all voters to vote through mail-in ballots
- UK, Austria, and Switzerland also have mail-in voting
- Studies show voter fraud through mail-in voting is extremely rare
The lie matters because:
- Trump said Putin told him the 2020 election was rigged because of mail-in voting
- Trump also said he would sign an EO “to end mail-in ballots because they’re corrupt.”
- The Constitution does not give the President any control over federal elections
- The truth is, he is very worried about the elections because his policies are deeply unpopular!
