Trump said he would deport unlawful migrants but he is expanding that and waging an assault on immigrant communities.
- With new empowerment, increased ICE raids are targeting people of color, including US citizens, legal residents, and those without a criminal record
- Trump directed ICE to set high quotas for arrests, going from a few hundred a day to 1500, which has already resulted in essential workers, family members of US citizens, and other noncriminals getting caught up in mass deportations
Trump claims his deportations will be good for the US economy but data shows that is not the case.
- Over 70% of employees in California’s $50 billion agricultural industry are estimated to be undocumented. Recent data suggests that immigration enforcement and fear of deportation have played a role in farmworker absences in January, especially in the Central Valley
- Immigrants contribute to economic growth by increasing the labor force, boosting consumption, and fostering innovation. Fewer immigrants could result in slower economic expansion and reduced overall productivity
Trump claims deportations will make America safer but his executive actions risk our national security.
- He terminated a Biden policy that required ICE to prioritize for arrest and deportation individuals who threaten public safety or national security
- Authorizing ICE to make arrests in schools, churches, and courthouses does not make our communities safer
- By cancelling a refugee program which includes allies who help our troops in other countries, he is putting the future of this program into jeopardy
